Humanscale® Diffrient World® Chair
If, as Leonardo Da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” then the sleek World chair by Humanscale, with its mechanism-free recline action and intuitive adjustments, is surely the physical embodiment of the Less is More philosophy. Engineers tell us that when a design solves a functional problem as simply and gracefully as possible, the resulting form will be honest and timeless. The contemporary art deco styling of the World chair, which despite its slim profile can hold users up to 300 lbs., is spare enough to blend well in many areas of your home, yet stylish enough to add a touch of elegance wherever you put it.
Engineered to provide all the benefits of ergonomic back support and comfort without thought or effort on your part, the World chair uses a body-hugging tri-panel mesh backrest instead of complicated manual controls to achieve a user-friendly sitting experience. Some of its features include:

Humanscale® Diffrient World® Chair
Designed and engineered for ergonomic back support and comfort without thought or effort on your part, the Diffrient World chair by Humanscale uses a body-hugging tri-panel mesh backrest and the laws of physics in place of complicated manual controls to achieve intuitive, self-adjusting lumbar support and a user-friendly sitting experience.
Despite its slim and stylish profile, the World chair can hold users up to 300 lbs., as well as accommodate a wide range of body types.
The chair is available as an armless model, or with fixed or adjustable armrests. Choose from many colors, fabrics and two frame options. An optional upholstered seat cushion is also available.
Form-Sensing Mesh technology
Tri-panel, non-stretch mesh construction creates body-fitting contours and self-adjusting lumbar support for a customized fit.
By using the sitter's body weight and the laws of physics, the World chair's mech-free recline action automatically adjusts to the needs of each user with appropriate levels of resistance without locks, dials or manual controls.
5-star aluminum base
Adjustable Armrests (Optional)
The adjustable armrests move with the sitter for continuous ergonomic support during recline.
The Diffrient World chair comes with a 15-year manufacturer's warranty.
Made from just 80 parts overall — less than one-third the parts of traditional task chairs. As a result, two to three World chairs have the same overall environmental impact as a single traditional task chair. 95% of its components can be recycled.

“If a design solves a functional problem as simply and elegantly as possible, it will not only have superior performance, but its aesthetic will be timeless as well.”
— Robert King, Humanscale Founder and CEO
Humanscale was founded in 1983 with a mission to develop high-performance ergonomic office tools that would solve functional problems as straightforwardly and gracefully as possible. Beginning with its first product — an anti-glare filter that improved the visibility of monochrome monitors in the early 1980s — the company has methodically designed some of the most innovative products in the industry. In the late 1990s, Humanscale made a significant mark with its introduction of high-performance articulating keyboard systems, offering effortless one-touch adjustability while eliminating the knee-clearance issues associated with competing solutions. Today, the company is still the leader in that product category.
In 1999, Humanscale turned heads in the contract furniture industry with the introduction of the Freedom chair, designed by ergonomics pioneer Niels Diffrient. Combining unprecedented functionality with minimal manual controls, the chair broke new ground by utilizing dynamic mechanisms that respond to the requirements of each individual user automatically. Since its introduction in 1999, Freedom has won 10 international design awards and has been featured in virtually every major design publication.
Building on the success of the Freedom chair, in 2004 Diffrient designed the Liberty chair, which featured a tri-panel configuration of non-stretch mesh that provides tailor-made lumbar support without external devices.
In addition to task and office seating, Humanscale’s award-winning product line includes articulating keyboard supports, adjustable monitor arms, task lighting, CPU holders, laptop holders, foot rests and ergonomic mice. Headquartered in New York City with distribution worldwide, Humanscale is a leader in ergonomic design and is committed to environmental sustainability for all its products.
